Flood in PakistanQuite apart from the worldwide awareness of a disaster described by Ban Ki-Moon as the worst natural disaster and human tragedy he's witnessed, and he's seen a few, we should not forget that Pakistan belongs to our EAO region! Hence it behoves us to say something, given some occasional snippets of information 'on the ground'.

As you know we have two communities in Pakistan (Quetta and Lahore), with some seven or eight confreres all told, at least two of whom are Pakistani. this Salesian presence belongs to the Southern Philippines Province, and despite various difficulties along the way, is a superb example of a Salesian activity which benefits youth of any religion, but is of enormous value to the Christian and indeed Catholic community in that country.

postheadericon New Province Website Launches

New Province WebsiteA number of Salesians from the Province of Mary Help of Christians gathered to witness the official launch of the new province website, www.salesians.org.au, on Thursday 19th August at 7:30pm. It was held at the Salesian Province Centre at Ascot Vale in Victoria.

The official launch was opened by an opening prayer and a welcome speech by the provincial, Fr. Frank Moloney. During his speech, he thanked all those attended the launch, and particularly the Social Communication Team of the province, for their project in building up this new website.

On Saturday 14th August 2010 the Bolton community gathered in the college chapel to witness Fr Martin Coyle SDB taking up his office as Provincial of the Salesian Province of Great Britain (GBR).

The ceremony took place during a celebration of the Eucharist led by Fr David O'Malley, vice-Provincial and Rector of the community in Bollington. In the introduction he spoke of Saint Martin, who shared his cloak with a poor man.

postheadericon 60 Years as a Salesian

Fr. Anthony Moester SDBFr. Tony Moester celebrated his 60 years as a Salesian during the community Eucharist at Brooklyn Park in South Australia on 13th August. He was joined by every Salesian of the community together with two visiting priests: Fr. Peter Carroll from Sydney and Fr. Marc Barry from Melbourne.

Fr. Tony made his First Profession as a Salesian on 16th August 1950 in Holland. He then came to Australia as a missionary. In his homily, Fr. Tony thanked God for calling him as a Salesian in the last 60 years. He also acknowledged those who have been part of his life, supporting him in different ways. During the Eucharist, he also mentioned and prayed for the repose of the souls of his companions: Fr. Gerard Remie and Fr. Adrian Wenting who had come to Australia with him as fellow missionaries.
